Bootcamp, Heels and Rain–The NYC & Emmaus 110% Play Harder Press Trip

Shanna has become quite the jet-setter this month as she joined Eli for a whirlwind trip to New York City hot off the heels (and running shoes) of her trip to Seattle. The SMACK! Media mission was to join Jenn VonHagen (Director of Marketing, 110%) and David Green (CEO, 110%) from 110%  (Compression+Ice Gear) for a Press Tour that included a fun-filled three days of boot-camps, delicious dining in the city and of course, a chance to catch up with our favorite friends and editors on the East Coast to promote 110%. A Press Tour in the Big Apple requires a high level of fitness and mental fortitude, eloquently described in the words of Jenn, “We sweated. We pitched. We bled (seriously… heels + rain in NYC = disaster..).” The SMACKANISTAS tell all (ok, maybe not everything) about their action-packed two days in NYC and Emmaus.

Tuesday started at 8am sharp with a 110% and SMACK! Media hosted bootcamp for the leading NYC Women’s Magazines and Online Fitness Editors. The bootcamp was coached by well known, Stacy Berman from Stacy’s BootCamp. Stacy has appeared on The Doctors, MTV, NBC, The Early Show and many more incredible media outlets. The attendees included a “who’s who” in the world of Women’s Health and Fitness and Health publications.  We ran stairs together, challenged each other on push-ups, did “buddy-up” strength exercises and jump squated until our legs trembled….but not for long, as ICE COLD 110% calf and knee sleeves were the final reward. This was much more personal than a desk-side meeting and there was an enthusiastic energy in the air. Immediately following the workout, the editors were given calf and knee sleeves to try for recovery with COLD ICE.

Following the Boot Camp, it was time to meet with the boys to present 110% and drop off some SMACK! Media/110% goody bags. The visits included Maxim, Sports Business Journal, New York Times, Men’s Fitness and Men’s Journal. The day ended at an upper west-side wine bar to recap the days meetings and events.  “Yes, Bartender, we’ll have another round….and another please.”

Wednesday we awoke to tweets of bootcamp soreness before heading off to Emmaus, PA to meet with editors at the Rodale offices. There we met with our Rodale friends from Bicycling, Runner’s World, Men’s Health and Women’s Health.  We also got to eat at the Rodale cafeteria which, by the way, serves up incredible food! If you’ve never visited these offices, we suggest you do as Emmaus is a very special place.  No wonder the content in these magazines is so good..the atmosphere for thinking, training and testing product is perfect.

Thanks to solid relationships and strategic planning, 110% was successfully positioned as what’s NEW, NOW and NEXT face to face with 20 editors in less than 48 hours. It was a successful and gratifying couple of days, and Eli, Shanna and Jenn lived up to the full 110% brand. They definitely know what it means to go and play harder!
